In October 2010, Pearl's Premium was awarded a $50,000 grant by MassChallenge as one of "the world's highest-impact start-ups."
2009-2010: Served as free- and paid-media consultant for the City of Worcester's Public Health Division regarding its H1N1 (swine flu) information campaign. Helped to plan and promote the launch of the nation's first public H1N1 vaccination program, which received statewide and national media coverage.
2008-2011: Served as part-time Coordinator for Worcester Local First, an economic-sustainability campaign founded in September 2007 to encourage Worcester retail and business-to-business customers to "think local first, shift 10 percent" when buying products and services. In August 2008, Worcester Local First published 30,000 copies its 2008-2009 Business Directory, which contained listings for the 200+ members plus 20 pages of ads by member businesses. In August 2009, Worcester Local First published 30,000 copies its 2009-2010 Shopping Directory, which contains listings for the 210+ members plus 22 pages of ads by member businesses. In October 2010, Worcester Local First published 30,000 copies of its 2010-2011 Shopping Directories, which contains listings for 240+ members plus 32 pages of display and coupon ads by member businesses. Worcester Local First now has more than 260 members, all of which are local, independent and based in Worcester.
2004-2010: Provided market-strategy, corporate-communications, media-relations, public-affairs and web-support services to Common Pathways, a healthy-community initiative whose mission is to promote shared learning, reflection and broad engagement that improves community decision-making and quality of life for all residents of Greater Worcester. Developed and maintained web pages for Community Pathways' First Community Forum in November 2005 and Second Community Forum in April 2006. Provided editing and infographics support for Common Pathways' 2008 Worcester Indicators Report. Since January 2009: Have served as a volunteer member of Common Pathways' Leadership Council and Steering Committee. 2006: Provided media-relations services to the Automotive Career Development Center in Worcester, MA, a national and international provider of training for hybrid-vehicle service and repair, in connection with ACDC's June 2006 "Up Your Voltage! Four Days of Hybrid Heaven" workshop for auto-repair shop owners and technicians from around the U.S. and the world. Developed a new home page and content for ACDC's website in connection with "Up Your Voltage!" Wrote and distributed news releases to local and national news media. 2005: Provided national media-relations services for the National 2005 Tour De Sol clean-vehicle rally in Saratoga Springs and Albany, NY. The Tour de Sol, which was produced by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, the nation's leading regional education and advocacy association, aims to accelerate the deployment and use of renewable energy as well as energy efficiency. Also, developed and maintained a web News Media Page for the National 2005 Tour de Sol, which resulted in a record number of impressions for the event. Premier Sponsors of the National 2005 Tour de Sol were the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and the Center for Technology Commercialization (CTC). Key Sponsors were the U.S. Department of Energy, the New York Power Authority, Toyota Motor Corp., the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Parks, American Honda Motor Co., Environmental Alternatives and the Federal Highway Administration. The Automotive Career Development Center and CTC were key organizers of the National 2005 Tour de Sol's Monte Carlo-style Rally, which included a 100 MPG Challenge.
2005: Provided market-strategy and corporate-communications services to the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, a private, non-profit organization that conducts independent, non-partisan research on financial, administrative, management and community issues facing Greater Worcester municipal governments.

In addition, inner-city kids comprise at least 10% of the children getting sailing lessons and hands-on experience in the Summer Camp program.
1987-2004: As Managing Editor of Business Worcester (1987-1990) and as Editor of Worcester Business Journal (1990-2004), assigned, reported, wrote and edited features and Q&A interviews on hundreds of local, national and international business leaders. The bi-weekly, business-to-business publication, which serves Central Mass. and Metrowest, is advertiser- and subscriber-supported, with a circulation of 11,000 and a readership of 30,000.
